Are you looking for a project management role that uses your understanding and skills to inform marine development decision-making?

ABPmer is looking for a maritime specialist to provide marine consent and service development support. 

This is a great opportunity for somebody with marine operations experience and a strong analytical mindset to join a growing team working on UK and worldwide projects. 

About the role

Working alongside other maritime specialists, you will be involved in all stages of a project from tender preparation and delivery to ongoing client support. 

When undertaking navigation assessments, you will be using quantitative techniques and state-of-the-art technology to validate expert judgement.

Your role will focus on the following areas:

Service development

  • Continuous improvement of assessment techniques and tools
  • Managing enquiries and preparing proposal documents
  • Business development including attending conferences and networking

Development consent

  • Assessing site location and boundaries by identifying constraints and potential project risks
  • Preparing Navigational Risk Assessments proportional to the development
  • Preparing documents for the Environmental Impact Assessment process
  • Consulting with stakeholders and hosting of workshops
  • Providing post consent support for operations including aids to navigation, procedures and vessel logistics

As well as working with our maritime specialists, you will also be engaging with other teams in ABP and multidisciplinary consultancies, providing specialist maritime advice and input to projects concerning proposed developments and operations. 

As we deliver varied projects throughout the UK and overseas, some of our project work requires site-visits and working away from home for extended periods (circa two weeks).

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone with drive and motivation who wishes to make a difference in the maritime sector, whether it is working with ports, renewable energy or marine developments. The role involves significant amounts of report writing and presentation of information to technical experts and industry representatives. 

This role might be right for you, if you have...

  • A degree-level in a relevant subject, deck officer or equivalent RN training
  • Working knowledge of marine/vessel operations
  • Consultancy or project management experience
  • Strong analytical skills with a scientific mindset
  • Excellent communication skills in the form of technical reports and presentations to senior personnel
  • Excellent time-management, organisational and prioritisation skills
  • A driving licence and a self-sufficient mindset is essential (travel is an expectation)

Desirable skills and experience

  • Understanding of risk management processes
  • Familiarity with consenting processes (Marine Licensing, NSIP)
  • Experience with port marine operations
