NEW! South coast and Solent model available
The model incorporates the most up-to-date and high quality bathymetry available for the area.
ABPmer has developed, with the cooperation of a number of regional partners, a new hydrodynamic model of the south coast and Solent.
The model, primarily developed to support Cowes Harbour Commission’s harbour development, incorporates the most up-to-date and high quality bathymetry available for the area.
The performance of the model has been independently peer reviewed during development and has been demonstrated to reproduce well the complicated tidal configurations within the Solent area, including the famous double high water and Young Flood Stand.
Results from the model were recently presented at a public consultation meeting, after which Cowes Harbour Master Capt. Stuart McIntosh commented
"Leisure and commercial users may find ABPmer's video animations of tidal flows of particular interest, like I do. These tidal simulations are taken from the new, powerful hydrodynamic model and illustrate tidal patterns in and around Cowes Harbour and the adjacent waters of the Solent."
The model provides a robust tool to investigate tidal flows, sedimentation and wave activity within the Solent and adjacent south coast area which may be of interest to a number of organisations in this region.
