Sediment study for Wessex coast
Our study of sediment properties informed the management of coastal defences between Sharpness and Porlock Bay
ABPmer was contracted by the Environment Agency to record the sediment properties in the intertidal zone of the Bristol Channel and Severn Estuary coastlines, between Sharpness and Porlock Bay.
The study was undertaken to better understand the variation in the bed characteristics in front of coastal defences to assist with their future management.
Our in-house Survey team took surface and sub-surface sediment samples at 1km spacing near Mean High Water and across the intertidal area. The collected sediments were then characterised through particle size analysis. The results were subsequently made available via the EA SANDS database.
