Sinclair's Bay cable landfall assessment

Supported a proposal to install five subsea cables in Sinclair's Bay, northern Scotland

Heidi Roberts ABPmer

Up to five subsea cables from Shetland, Orkney, Peterhead and Portgardon and potentially an offshore wind farm are to be installed at the northern end of Sinclair’s Bay, northern Scotland.

ABPmer was contracted to undertake a cable landfall assessment to investigate the potential impacts to the coastal processes at the proposed cable landfall site and recommend the most appropriate cable installation options.

Our study investigated the potential impacts of dynamic processes, including nearshore sediment mobility and short to long term beach and dune profile variability, on the integrity of a proposed cable landfall location.

Consideration was also given to the potential for short and longer term environmental impacts on the dune, beach and nearshore cable corridor resulting from the cable installation works.
