Did you know we offer training, too?

Our specialist knowledge has supported client projects for nearly 70 years. But did you know we also share our experience through professional training?

ABPmer is recognised for its specialist skills and knowledge, which has supported client projects worldwide for nearly 70 years. But did you know we also share our extensive know-how and experience through professional training courses?

All our training is delivered by specialist staff, either at the ABP offices in Southampton or on client premises.

Recent courses have included:

Consents and Licensing Training in the Netherlands

ABPmer recently delivered training to marine construction and dredging specialist Boskalis at their headquarters in Papendrecht, western Netherlands.

Our highly experienced planning and consents specialists designed and delivered a tailored, two-day course on the UK consenting system. Using local case studies from the subsea cables industry, the course gave an insight into marine licences, stakeholder roles and responsibilities and expanded on the assessment inputs and processes that support marine licence applications.

The multimedia course included presentations, handouts and breakout exercises to encourage active engagement and maximise learning.

PMSC Auditor Training for Marine Professionals

The Port Marine Safety Code recommends that marine safety management systems should be subject to an annual audit. Conducting an effective audit requires a solid understanding of the PMSC and accompanying Guide to Good Practice, combined with auditing skills to identify conformity, compliance and system adaptation.

ABPmer recently ran internal auditor training for Harbour Authorities and owners of marine facilities across the country. Supporting participants in developing the necessary skills to report on the conformance and implementation of a Marine Safety Management System, the course covered:

  • Auditing against the PMSC and GtGP
  • Standard terms and definitions
  • Audit process and stages
  • Gathering appropriate audit evidence
  • Interviewing techniques
  • Reporting audit findings

Next courses: 17-18 March 2020 and 10-11 November 2020

Coastal and Marine GIS Introduction

Marine and coastal data are invaluable to decision-making, but the complexity of GIS can be a barrier to delivering practical and useful outputs.

ABPmer’s Introduction to Coastal and Marine GIS recently ran in Southampton, supporting participants with an understanding of marine data and its application within a GIS environment.

The course used case studies and hands-on activities to introduce various GIS concepts and techniques, tackle common problems when mapping the marine environment, and delivered a GIS Clinic to help solve participants’ specific issues.

Next course: 28-30 January 2020
