Navigation Studies

No matter where an offshore development is being considered (nearshore, offshore or subsea) it is essential to plan for navigational traffic and to consider vessel requirements.

ABPmer offers a strong team of scientists and port professionals who provide a service tailored to different sizes of ports and harbours considering developments; from optimised mooring arrangements to large scale port developments.

We provide a range of services to inform Navigation Impact Assessments, including the assessment of traffic type, density and waterway usage, manoeuvring space, berthing optimisation, accident and incident potential; plus the effect on recreational users and environmental receptors (such as ship wash) at the shore.

We are also nationally recognised experts in marine traffic data analysis and presentation. Our Data team has developed and authored the UK Government’s approach to analysis of AIS shipping traffic through the development of bespoke software solutions and presentation methods. Our expertise in this subject has underpinned marine traffic analysis for offshore developments, port creation and modification and socio-economic assessments.
