ABPmer visualisations to be used in Coastal Change Exhibition

June 24, 2011

Visualisation work undertaken by ABP Marine Environmental Research Ltd (ABPmer) in association with Archipelago is being used to engage with local communities and visitors to the Dorset coast about coastal change.

The Jurassic Coastal Change Pathfinder Team is inviting residents and visitors to the region to a series of exhibitions to find out more about how coastal erosion may affect them and the area in the future.
The exhibitions will highlight the causes of coastal change, and show what the coast might look like in 20, 50 and 100 years time. This includes using specially commissioned computer generated images and ABPmer’s visualisations on coastal squeeze and managed realignment.

Heidi Roberts, Coastal Business Development Manager at ABPmer, said “Our aim when we develop these and other engagement tools is to help people understand the meaning of coastal change and adaptation so they can fully participate in the future planning of their coast.

The Coastal Change Pathfinders are part of a range of approaches Government is taking to support community coastal change adaptation and we’re delighted our work is being used in this way”.

ABPmer is at the forefront of understanding how the coast might respond to climate change which is fundamental to developing sustainable management solutions at the coast.
The company is a recognised provider of coastal management services and undertakes numerous studies supporting flood and coastal erosion risk management and climate change adaptation.
