Defective Pilot Boarding Ladders

21/12/2018

The International Maritime Pilots Association has published its annual safety survey. This report comments on the trends relating to non-SOLAS compliant boarding arrangements, despite the existence of international rules outlined in SOLAS Chapter V (Regulation 23). Defective and sub-standard pilot boarding ladders have been a topic of concern for many ports.

The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency has requested that the British Ports Association (BPA) write formally to them and request pilot boarding ladders are added to the January meeting of the Port Marine Safety Code Steering Group.

To assist the discussion, the BPA are requesting that ports help by completing a short survey. The BPA has requested that ports complete the survey by 9 of January 2019, ahead of the Steering Group meeting.
